Sorry Jack, Oil on Canvas, 2024, 90cm x 70cm

JS Rivera is a recent immigrant to Ireland. His art is influenced by debates around ‘Irishness’ in response to anti-immigrant rhetoric. In this painting, Sorry Jack, modern-day Dubliners watch an imagined Liffey ‘Swim’ performed by asylum seekers. This work is based on Jack B Yeat’s renowned 1923 painting The Liffey Swim.
